Description

UNIKATO is a low-budget building inspired by the modernist architecture of our city, blackened by smog. The black façade contrasts sharply with the always white windows. The balconies provide a storage extension for the small flats, while the full railing conceals its contents. The balconies arranged in the same direction on all façades creates a characteristic silhouette. As one approaches the building it gradually becomes more dynamic.

Statement of the jury

The cylinder-shaped balconies that rhythmically protrude from the structure give the building a distinctively-sculptured aesthetic, which is emphasised by the dark colouration. The white window frames make for an interesting contrast to this and break up the image nicely.
