Papiermuseum Düren
Description
For centuries, Düren has been the city of paper. As an artistic synthesis of architectural and graphic design, the extensively renovated and enlarged Papiermuseum Düren is dedicated to this material. The building, resembling a paper sculpture, extends skywards, its design embodying the three archetypes of paper processing: folding, water marks and embossing. In so doing, it combines the façade of the original and new building while appearing to be an entirely new structure.
Statement of the jury
It is impressive to see how consistency and creativity have been used to implement the paper theme into architecture and exhibition design. A fantastic work, realised to an extremely high level, both in terms of form and content.
