Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology

Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology

Description

The Princess Máxima Center’s mission is to cure every child with cancer while providing optimal quality of life. Its architecture is designed to support this goal. LIAG paid particular attention to the known aspects of a healing environment like daylight, air, views, good acoustics and clear zoning in order to support the healing process. The surrounding landscape is intertangled with the building and greenery is present everywhere. A colourful bridge connects it to the adjacent hospital.

Statement of the jury

The highly-modern building complex expresses itself right from the outside with a friendly and colourful facade. Inside, the colour concept is carried through consistently, built upon by different areas that all aim to reduce stress levels. The rooms are arranged in a contemporary way and offer a separate area for parents that can be used for overnight stays, allowing them to be near to their children. An exemplary design, developed and executed with sensitivity and empathy.
