Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte

Haus der Bayerischen Geschichte

Description

The museum fits naturally and confidently into the historical city profile. With the cathedral window as the closing point of the permanent exhibition, visitors are confronted with the present. The sculpture of the individual elements of the building is given sense by the generous undercuts, openings into the entrance hall and the differentiated treatments of the opaque surfaces of the façades. Inside, the entrance hall forms a public place reflecting the historic location of the Hunnenplatz.

Statement of the jury

With its sculptural, modern stylistic idiom, the building forms an interesting contrast to the historic building fabric of the surroundings. This impression is further underlined by the relief façade. As a result, the building appears highly independent overall, not to say iconic, and boasts high recognisability.
