“We want to be a good neighbour” – the formulated aim of the briefing. querkraft’s response - a design with added value for its surroundings. the first car-free, urban IKEA is in a mixed-used building with a public roof top and a hostel in the upper two storeys. the building lives 24 hours, seven days a week. The external envelope is a 4.5-metre deep zone that runs around the building like a shelf. it allows spaces to expand, offers room for servant elements and for terraces with large trees on them.
