Opernhausmuseum Bayreuth

Opernhausmuseum Bayreuth

Description

The UNESCO World Heritage "Bayreuth Margravial Opera House" and the associated new museum form an overwhelming place of baroque stage culture. The design concept transforms elements of baroque opulence into a contemporary form: Golden wall coverings, panelling made of smoked oak and a two-storey glazed air space in the centre create the setting for the congenially designed exhibition of walk-through stage sets that stimulate all the senses with illusionistic stylistic devices.

Statement of the jury

The design for the Opera House Museum Bayreuth consistently takes up the essential design features of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Margravial Opera House Bayreuth' and translates them into a modern but no less opulent exhibition design that merges past and present into an independent entity. A fascinating project that promises a special visitor experience.
