Details

At the heart of the house lies the Angan, a sacred courtyard uniting childhood, celebrations, and calm. The project reinterprets the tradition of Wadas, merging communal openness with modern needs. Two built forms frame the courtyard, balancing privacy with transparency and flexibility. Materials such as brick, wood, and metal evoke the warmth of tradition, complemented by green landscapes. The façade reimagines the Jharokha in a minimalist way, using metal louvres that enhance light, ventilation, and a sense of connection.

The Jury‘s Statement

A powerful courtyard forms the heart of the »Angan (Courtyard) House« project, creating a space that harmoniously unites community and retreat. The combination of brick, wood and metal unfolds a warm, timeless atmosphere. The reinterpretation of traditional elements such as Jharokha and the subtle integration of green areas demonstrate a distinctive, confident approach that makes residential quality at the highest level convincingly tangible.
