Details
The Stuttgart villa was the residence and studio of the artist Adolf Hölzel. The goal of the Hölzel Foundation was to return the 100-year-old existing building to its original purpose. In addition to a careful renovation, it was to be supplemented by further uses. For this purpose, the existing building itself became the design theme: it was copied, moved and reinserted. The DOPPELGÄNGER becomes visible through its decolorization and develops a tension between the existing and the new building.
The Jury‘s Statement
The idea of extending the historic existing building with a discolored duplicate of the original as an annex is extraordinary and makes the whole newly created object unique.
