Details
The concept is for residents, city, and builder to work together to turn four condominiums into a ''SuBaCo'' that will become a place for people and local living things. The four verandah terraces, a shared space for enjoying the spacious grounds, invite residents outside, and the greening, based on biological research, attracts birds and butterflies to the town. The design also aims to create harmony between the natural environment and the living environment, as well as its sustainability, allowing small green hubs to connect and expand. SuBaCo is an acronym for sustainability, biodiversity, and community, and means a birdhouse in Japanese.
The Jury‘s Statement
The two-story wooden house stands out by harmoniously blending natural and urban living environments. The incorporation of terraces as communal spaces encourages interaction, while the thoughtfully designed greenery supports local biodiversity. The »SuBaCo project -REASON MAGOMEZAWA-« exemplifies how sustainable design can positively impact urban landscapes.
