Details
An allotment house in the hills of Vienna. A retreat for relaxing, socialising and gardening. Optimised floor space with maximum efficiency for a family of four. Four identical boxes with shed roofs made of prefabricated wooden elements are arranged windmill-shaped around a central oculus. The relationship between inside and outside is essential for the atmosphere of the space: the landscape flows through the building and offers views in all directions.
The Jury‘s Statement
Assembled from prefabricated wooden elements, the allotment house looks like a miniature villa, but offers enough comfort for a family of four on two levels. The oculus in the center provides a generous sense of space inside. A small architectural gem that stands out in an original way from the formal monotony of many conventional garden and vacation homes.
