Details
Wohnungsbau Aalen GmbH constructed five apartment buildings with 35 partially subsidized residential units, a community room, and 11 row houses on a former church property. The buildings were constructed as KfW-55 low-energy houses using a wood-hybrid construction method. The project integrates various housing forms, marks the northern boundary of the settlement, and creates transitions to the landscape. Central courtyards, barrier-free apartments, and an underground garage characterize the ensemble. Sustainability and quality are prioritized, supported by a central pellet heating system and highly insulated building envelopes.
The Jury‘s Statement
The ‘Wohnen im Pelzwasen - Quartierszentrum Martinskirche’ residential quarter shows how sustainable construction and social integration can go hand in hand. The hybrid timber construction and energy-efficient technology set standards for environmentally conscious living. The mix of subsidised and privately financed flats promotes a lively neighbourhood and creates a harmonious interplay between architecture and landscape.
