Details
The former MAFA machine factory still characterizes the image of Heidenau today. The rudimentary buildings determine the character of the place. This has given rise to the idea of preserving it in part in its appearance worthy of preservation and letting it live on as a layer of time. Thus, the existing and the new enter into a dialogue and inspired us to develop an exciting, diverse district that creates a distinctive centre. PRESERVE, REPURPOSE + BUILD ON.
The Jury‘s Statement
The idea of combining the charm of the historic buildings of the former machine factory with modern architecture to create a new urban district sounds promising and leads us to expect a significant increase in the quality of life in the city thanks to the wide range of possible uses.
