REWE Green Farming in Wiesbaden is a prototype for a new adaptable and sustainable market concept, able to fit any site typology. An iconic and highly visible simple timber structure forms the main element of a new architectural identity for REWE. In a shift from conventional big shed supermarkets, a series of columns arch over the customers, creating a different shopping experience with a more human scale. An aquaponic farm is housed within the building and a modular greenhouse above.
The Jury‘s Statement
The REWE Green Farming store is an innovative concept for the retail trade that is oriented towards the principles of sustainability. The supply of fresh, regional food is not only increasingly in demand, but also necessary from an ecological point of view. The holistically thought-out concept shows how future food production and distribution can merge. Modular in design, the Green Farming store can be adapted to any location and thus respond to regional needs. This REWE store concept opens a window to the future - visionary and sustainable.
