A changeable chair (chancha) for three ergonomic sitting positions: classic, knee-supported and meditative. Its modular design not only allows it to be adapted to different scenarios, but also enables individual elements to be replaced quickly without tools – whether for repairs or for a specific aesthetic change. The materials can be separated by type: the upholstery is biodegradable, the steel frame is fully recyclable. The result is a circular, functional and modular product.
The Jury‘s Statement
Thinking about furniture from the end of its life cycle is probably the most important part of a sustainable design strategy. Of course, it is crucial that things remain in use for as long as possible. But even the best chair will eventually reach the end of its useful life. That's why Desina Studio from Germany has designed ‘Chancha’, a versatile, ergonomic piece of seating furniture that can be repaired without tools and, last but not least, dismantled into its constituent parts for recycling. The circular approach includes biodegradable upholstery and a fully recyclable steel frame. The designers deserve great credit for their sincere engagement with multifunctionality, materiality and recyclability.
