Mathe Wirtshaus

A traditional inn in Austria’s Waldviertel, last renovated in the 1990s, was reinterpreted for a contemporary audience. The aim was to create a calm, familiar place for existing guests while attracting a new fine-dining clientele. The design translates the region’s landscape into space: dark wood evokes the forest, green tones moss and ferns, red accents the poppy fields, while reflective surfaces suggest the mist. Traditional elements meet urban materials, supported by lighting, acoustics and local craftsmanship.
