Details

The historic building complex was built in 1907, is part of Hilden's industrial history and is now rented out as an office park. The buildings were previously not wheelchair accessible and barrier-free. For this reason, an external elevator was planned that now connects all levels. The horizontal layering of the facade with the dates symbolizes the more than 116-year history of the buildings. An office loft was designed in the previously unused attic as a sensible densification of the area. The open built-in features support the impressive spatial impression with the exposed beams of the roof truss.

The Jury‘s Statement

With the wheelchair-accessible conversion of the “Creative Factory”, a historic office building has been made barrier-free with an external elevator connecting all levels. The creative conversion of the unused top floor into an office loft demonstrates a respectful and sensitive approach to the listed building fabric and impresses with the successful integration of modern elements.
