Details

The new private arena in Kobe, located on a pier surrounded by the sea, will be a landmark for the city's waterfront. It will host sports and live entertainment events, becoming a hub of activity that connects with neighbouring areas. The arena's V-shaped roof opens to the sea and mountains, reflecting Kobe's topography. The arena has been designed to reduce the total air volume to meet low-energy standards (ZEB Ready), making it the first of its kind in Japan as a 10,000-seater facility.

The Jury‘s Statement

The strikingly fanned roof of »GLION ARENA KOBE« translates the topography of sea and mountains into an architectural statement of distinction. The arena subtly connects its surroundings, becoming an identity-forming meeting place. Especially impressive is the harmonious combination of sustainable construction, spatial generosity, and emotional impact – a compelling benchmark for public architecture at the highest level.
