Details

With the "Kalkhof-Rose-Saal," Germany's first chamber music hall, built using timber construction, was realized. The project was executed while the academy remained fully operational. Specially designed acoustic panels ensure a unique sound experience. Never before has a chamber music hall been constructed as a timber structure in Germany—let alone as an extension of an existing ensemble. This required a fundamental rethinking of the principles of concert hall architecture.

The Jury‘s Statement

A chamber music hall constructed entirely in timber lends »Kalkhof-Rose-Saal« a charismatic presence and delivers an impressive acoustic experience. The extension blends harmoniously into the existing ensemble while respecting its identity. The demanding realization during ongoing operations vividly demonstrates how relevant bold, sustainable architecture can be for public spaces today.
