Details
The house is on a hill faces the sea. Our challenge is to provide a man-made space yet infiltrating with this beautiful nature. Echoing with the flow of waves, different spaces are carved out in the house, like a monolith being washed out by tides. Cavities hollowed out from all sides and levels; then nature filled in. Living here as if wandering and making discoveries in a cave. Flow path in this geometric cave varies, depends on climate, season and even mood. The hollowed-out Cavities form courtyards. It externalizes the interiority and internalizes the exteriority through layers of Cavities, maintaining privacy yet opening up moderately.
The Jury‘s Statement
The powerful interplay of nature and architecture defines »A House Carved by Waves«. Flowing spatial sequences, skilfully sculpted cavities and harmoniously integrated courtyards enable impressive light effects and a subtle merging of indoors and outdoors. This project impresses with consistent spatial design, emotional depth and a confident balance of privacy and openness. Outstanding within its field, it deserves the highest distinction.
