It was not the pursuit of more space but the dream of a special way of living that drew the Schneider family to this hillside. Just steps from the grandparents’ larger house, yet a different world: steep, dotted with fruit trees, crossed by paths and terraces traced by sheep over decades. These patterns inspired the siting and access. The structure rests on red sandstone: concrete below, timber from their own forest above – compact, sustainable, resource-conscious. Radically open, with long sightlines through the house. Its heart is the staircase, framing views through the “church window” down into the valley.
