Details
The traditional Japanese townhouse, or "machiya," integrates nature into daily life with a central garden, fostering a unique aesthetic and respect for nature. Architect Shin Takamatsu revived this tradition in a densely built urban area by designing a house with a central courtyard surrounded by rooms. Upon entering, the light-filled courtyard naturally draws you inward, connecting all rooms and allowing light and air to flow throughout. The changing light and shadow with the seasons create a deep connection with nature, expanding the space and creating a living experience that feels embraced by the sky.
