Details

The towers are positioned on the edge of a quay on the island. In earlier times this quay housed a coal storage for the ships. The burnt wooden cladding of the towers gives a nod back to that period and absorbs the light, almost creating visually negative space. The design is a mix of influence by traditional wooden constructions and a step into the future, energy independent with the south wall covered in solar panels. The towers frame a private view of both the sea below and the skies above.

The Jury‘s Statement

The tiny houses»Two Towers at Manshausen«offer a unique view of the sea and sky. Their design combines traditional wooden construction with modern architecture, contemporary comfort and energy efficiency. Burnt wood panels as cladding address historical contexts, while the use of solar energy marks the step towards a sustainable future.
