Details
The headquarters of the Volksbank in the historic old town of Kirchheim, which our client planned to demolish, was fundamentally renovated, modernised and rebuilt to meet current and future customer requirements through targeted interventions in the existing structure. By preserving the basic structure of the building, the so-called 'grey energy' was utilized, by saving the CO2 emissions that would have been produced in the construction of a new building.
The Jury‘s Statement
The decision to refurbish the existing building in the historic old town instead of completely demolishing it and replacing it with a new building resulted in significant CO2 savings. The fact that the building also blends harmoniously into the historic stock of the neighborhood after its modernization is also sympathetic.
