Details
With a consistently sustainable concept, a listed industrial hall in Cologne-Kalk is being transformed into Museum Selma – a central venue dedicated to Germany’s migration society. The design preserves the history of the existing structure and adds modular timber elements based on Cradle-to-Cradle principles. Visible traces of industrial labour are integrated into the architecture, reflecting the close link between migration and work. The concept sets a forward-looking example for inclusive participation, cultural diversity, and climate-conscious building.
The Jury‘s Statement
The consistent integration of sustainable materials and the respectful treatment of the existing structure characterize »Museum Selma« in an impressive way. Modular timber installations based on cradle-to-cradle principles create flexible spaces that preserve the industrial heritage and promote social diversity. Especially noteworthy is the authentic fusion of architecture, history, and participation, setting a powerful benchmark for excellent conceptual architecture.
