Details

The project to extend Hotel Alcron – Almanach Prague has two main goals: to create a new rooftop space and expand public areas for a Sky bar and restaurant with an open terrace. Built in 1933, the hotel is part of a UNESCO heritage area, so the design respects heritage requirements. Construction began in 2023. The architect Ivo Nahálka, who completed the hotel's original extension in 1998, returned after 25 years to design another one. Inspired by historical ships, the design aims for BREEAM – Excellent certification using natural materials like wood, glass, and steel.

The Jury‘s Statement

The extension of the public areas of the historic hotel by developing the roof area into a modern hotel with a Skybar & Restaurant shows how creatively heritage conservation and contemporary design can harmonise. The inspiration of historic ships and the pursuit of BREEAM Excellent certification emphasise the concept of the ‘Skybar & Restaurant hotel Alcron’.
