Renewal of Century Square in East Nanjing Road

Century Square transforms a strategic site on Shanghai’s East Nanjing Road into a vibrant, ecological and flexible urban living room. Inspired by Shanghai’s identity “upon the sea”, the square unfolds like a shell around a central kaleidoscope that reflects the city and acts as an environmental device. Green terraces, shaded seating, vegetation and adaptable event areas support everyday life and large gatherings, while integrated ecological systems improve air quality and microclimate. At night, light and reflections evoke the sea and give the square a renewed civic identity.
