Weaving Light & Culture: The Chromatic Renewal of Kashgar's Historic Streets

In Kashgar, a Silk Road heritage city, we created a culturally-ecological color system for urban renewal. From local architecture and landscape, we decoded four color genes—Populus Gold, Terracotta Red, Glacier Green, Sky Blue—forming a low-reflectance palette for the arid climate. Guided by the Sunlight-Color Response Curve, we designed five historic streets: cool tones on east-west facades, warm tones on north-south, creating a chromatic gradient from ancient sunset to new sunrise.
