Details
This project redefines collective housing in Kyoto as infrastructure for sustaining regional craftsmanship. Tile, stone, metal mesh, washi and plaster, produced by nine principal craft collaborators, are embedded as integral architectural elements rather than applied as decoration. By linking production, construction, living and maintenance, the project creates recurring demand for craft over its lifecycle; maintenance is structured to re-engage the original artisans. All 29 units were sold without discount, and the approach is already being extended to a subsequent project.
