Details

The Falginjoch cable car in the Kaunertal valley climbs to the highest point in the ski area at an elevation of 3,113 metres. The exposed location and a construction period which had to be shortened to 6 months to accommodate the high alpine conditions called for a high level of prefabrication. This also helped to minimise on-site construction and keep it within ecologically acceptable limits. The defining design features are concrete, steel and glass.

The Jury‘s Statement

The cable car building, constructed from prefabricated elements at an altitude of over 3,000 m, is enclosed by a steel structure that gives the building a technical appearance and embodies stability. The glass fronts behind it provide transparency and brightness inside. An iconic building that is also convincing from an ecological point of view.
