Details
The redesign of the iconic “Hanikian” hotel embodies elements of the topography of its legendary location on the Corinthian Gulf, endowing the formerly rectangular building an organic form and shaping a new architectural identity. As the hotel stands on the edge of the Volcanic Arc, besides the craterless volcano “Sousaki” its design was inspired by a mythological embodiment of a volcanic eruption emulating the fluidity of lava with successive curved surfaces creating a sculpture effect on the facades.
The Jury‘s Statement
The design for the Hanikian Hotel on the Corinthian Gulf translates the aesthetics of solidified lava flows into iconic architecture. The fact that the design is consistently continued in the interior up to the rooms creates a special atmosphere.
