Details

Conversion, expansion and renovation instead of a new building were the key points in the Alfdorf multipurpose hall project. A sports hall from the 1970s was converted into a sports and cultural centre. The construction was dismantled down to the raw materials, freed from pollutants and energetically renovated. Concrete components were recycled or incorporated into the new structures. The facades were clad with local wood. Rainwater is stored for use.

The Jury‘s Statement

After the complete renovation, the former sports hall from the 1970s appears appealingly modern, to which the cladding with wood contributes to a large extent. Inside the building, which has been converted into a multipurpose hall, exposed concrete walls and wood create a high-quality atmosphere. A successful project that is convincing both formally and functionally.
