Details
The new exhibhition „The Blue Continent – Islands in the Pacific“ plunges visitors from Bremen into Oceania. In the centre of the permanent exhibition is ‘The Island’ inspired by the atolls of the Pacific Ocean, rising from the sea-blue gallery floor. Surrounding the Island are areas exploring diversity, identity and migration, colonialism, resources and climate change. This redesign shifts perspectives, allowing a collective, non-Eurocentric museum voice to share the stories of the collection.
The Jury‘s Statement
A captivating spatial concept creates an emotionally resonant experience in the Übersee-Museum Bremen, powerfully conveying the interconnectedness of nature, culture, and the sea. »Der blaue Kontinent – Inseln im Pazifik« impresses with charismatic scenography, confident material choices, and the subtle integration of Oceanic perspectives. The exhibition sets new benchmarks for combining quality of stay, reflection, and cultural self-representation—an outstanding achievement at Gold level.
