At Yoshidaya, a 100-year-old ryokan in Ureshino Onsen, the main bathhouse has been redesigned to enhance the view and spatial experience, fostering a deeper connection to nature. The existing wooden fence surrounding the site was reinterpreted as a ribbed concrete wall and integrated into the architecture, reconstructing the relationship with the boundary. The garden was lowered to align with the bathtubs, offering a seamless horizontal view. Concrete evokes strength and permanence, quietly reflecting Yoshidaya's long history. Reclaimed timber and pale green tiles-recalling the nearby Shiota River-anchor the space in its local setting.
