KIVIKKO SORTTI STATION

Details

A key architectural objective of the project was to embody the circular economy. The facades of the new buildings at the Sortti Station is clad with Rheinzink titanium zinc sheets, salvaged and recycled from the renovated double-curving facade of the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki. The old panels, technically as good as new, were transformed into a scaly cladding for the new buildings. The natural patina that has developed over time on the old titanium zinc sheets, combined with the scaly pattern of the cladding on the new buildings, gives the new facilities at Kivikko Sortti Station a beautifully varied, unique look.
