House in Jonan

House in Jonan

Description

The site faces a residential neighborhood on the south and west sides. Across the north-side street is a nursery school’s parking lot, and beyond it are the balconies of over 1000 units of prefectural housing. We designed an anteroom on the street-facing side as a buffer to ensure the privacy of residents. The layering of openings created by the buffer space provides privacy while bringing a pleasant breeze and light to the interior, acting as low or clerestory windows in the living spaces.

Statement of the jury

The house in Jonan convinces especially by the design of the interiors, which are friendly bright, although the cubic building looks very closed from the outside. The clear, puristic design has a timelessly elegant and high-quality effect and creates a high quality of living.
