Victorian Cottage Jazz Up Residence

Description

This original single fronted Victorian cottage in the neighbourhood of Brunswick in Melbourne is one of five Victorian brick single-storey houses in that street. Our brief was to restore the existing main building, including the original laundry outbuilding, and to extend the footprint of the non-original rear part as to enlarge the kitchen area, to make it more functional and create plenty of storage.

Statement of the jury

This contemporary and uncluttered design harmoniously integrates striking elements from the original architecture such as the arch in the corridor. A magnificent way to handle legacy elements.
