Sachi House

Sachi House

Description

Why: For patients to restore their dignity of life in an environment where hospitalised patients and nurses can spend time together comfortably. How: Designed like a two-family house, a medical welfare facility resembling the feeling of being at home, placed in nature, as a place for nurses to also relax. Now: Events such as yoga classes and tea ceremonies are held frequently every week, expanding their roles to become a regional community centre.

Statement of the jury

The geometry of the site has created an obvious triangular floor plan for this concept, which gives the clear form of the architecture a special quality, even from the inside. The cladding made from rough, coarsely-finished wooden slats creates a natural aesthetic that exudes tranquillity and promises a strong sense of security.
