Extension of Identity

Extension of Identity

Description

This extension to an old Mount Lebanon house, speaks to the old house using different language and materials yet sensitive to the elements of time and workmanship that identifies old houses. This villa has the same spirit of the old house circulation identified in the cantilevered stairs that connects the ground floor to the first floor. The voids entrance, and the imperfections in workmanship of the natural stone with rough cut used in the extension echo those of the old house.

Statement of the jury

The continuously-expanded structure made up of varied extensions carried out over the years, includes not only a range of building styles, but also different materials and textures. This means the concept respectfully combines the volumes in front of the existing historical buildings to create a coherent ensemble.
