Burg-Bibliothek der Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle

Description

The newly built library is the result of an international architectural competition. With its slim, linear form with three storeys above ground, it defers to the architecture of the neighboring villas, while remaining distinct and individual. The façade is visually structured by the mullion-transom frontage with its solid larchwood cladding. The generous daylight on the ground floor, the bright vistas and the natural light falling on the reader´s work spaces make for a wonderful atmosphere.

Statement of the jury

This new structure is a contemporary, functional building with an extremely idiosyncratic design that refreshingly stands out from the adjacent architecture without appearing disruptive.
