SLEEPING COMFORT ABOVE THE CLOUDS – Holistic Approach for the Economy Class Long Range

RECARO Aircraft Seating’s engineers, designers and ergonomists developed concepts to improve sleeping comfort for long-range flights in the economy class (6 to 14 hours) and incorporated them into the CL3710 aircraft seat. Regardless of the passenger’s preferred sleeping position, the seat provides comfort for the entire body, starting with the additional side support of the abrazo headrest, the extra cushion for the lumbar region, all the way down to the extended seat bottom.

Statement of the jury

Although the new seat design was integrated into the existing construction frame, the seating and travel comfort could be significantly increased in the same space.The seat for the sleeping position is much more comfortable to adjust. A foldable upholstery element to support the thighs and lateral pivoting wings on the headrest enable an exceptionally good sleeping position, which is unique for seats in this class of aircraft. Further optimisations include the intelligently designed storage and stowage devices as well as the maximally large display in the backrest. A formally and technically outstanding design that shows that even intelligent »small« improvements can have a large impact.
