Freizeit- und Tagungseinrichtung Haus Meedland

Freizeit- und Tagungseinrichtung Haus Meedland

Description

The interlinked buildings of the conference facility Haus Meedland are characterized by the transformation of traditional typologies and materiality into contemporary architectural language. The elongated roofs and gables that shape the buildings pay homage to the traditional Frisian homestead. The houses Mirjam and Jona serve as principal as well as reception buildings and accommodate administration, kitchen, dining and conference halls. Guest rooms and a sauna are on the upper floor.

Statement of the jury

This building, which replaced a previous structure, integrates traditional Frisian architecture into a congenial and inviting residential complex. This is a lovely design whose interior – thanks to the abundant use of wood – exhibits the same congeniality and warmth as the building’s exterior.
