Bunker

Description

With the conversion of the massive concrete block in Ungererstrasse, Stefan F. Höglmaier has made a dream come true. The transformation shows awareness for the history of the building yet, at the same time, manages to provide state-of-the-art residential and commercial space. A total area of 1,000 m2 incorporates a three-storey office unit with a floor area of approximately 210 m2, three loft-like dwelling units each with 120 m2, and a 400-m2-large penthouse apartment on the top three floors.

Statement of the jury

In its post-renovation state, this historic building is modern and inviting, but still well grounded in its architectural roots. The challenge of converting a grim bunker into a contemporary residential and office complex with appealing large areas has been met successfully.
